Our Family Serving Your`s Since 1928

Lewis Funeral Home has been serving the Milton, Pace, Navarre, and Jay area communities for many years. We’re thankful to be an important part of this community and will continue our longstanding legacy of helping families honor their loved ones.

 

 

Our Heritage

In 1928, the late L.D. “Douglas” Wolfe Sr. and his wife, the former Cassius Elizabeth "Lizzie" Hoodless opened Wolfe Funeral Home in Milton, Florida which was the county seat of Santa Rosa County. The funeral home served as a place of business and residence for Douglas, Lizzy, and their three children, Dorothy, Doug Jr. and Bill.

In 1938, Dorothy "Dot", married Avis C. Lewis from Bagdad, Florida. Avis graduated from Gupton -Jones College of Mortuary Science in 1941. After Avis returned from serving his country in the U. S. Army Medical Corp., during World War II, Douglas Wolfe Sr. incorporated him in to the business and altered the name to Wolfe-Lewis Funeral Home. In 1974, a new location was opened at 6405 Hwy 90 W., Milton, and the downtown chapel closed its doors.

With Avis Lewis' passing in August of 1985, his sons, Sam and Mike, took over the daily operations of the funeral home under the council of their mother. In October 1991, they opened their second location: Lewis Funeral Home-Navarre Chape. Sam and Mike became the co-owners of the family business at their mother’s passing in 1996. They have continued to expand the firm with the addition Lewis Funeral Home - Pace Chapel/Fields of Faith Crematory in 2007 and most recently Lewis Funeral Home - Jay Cornerstone Chapel at the end of 2022.

Sam and Mike appreciate the continued trust and confidence that the citizens of Santa Rosa County and surrounding areas have extended to them and that have allowed them to be a locally owned FAMILY firm for over 94 years.
